ASTERICKS etched on a Remington 700 Barrel

I recently purchased a Remington 700 .308cal rifle and on the left side of the barrel there is a total of (10)astericks etched on it.

ex. ***** Remington Arms Company Inc, LLC *****

This is just an example. I can't remember what the text actually says. I asked the guy I bought it from what they meant. He said that he thought it meant that the barrel was made by Kreiger at one time for Remington. So, I asked my local gunsmith and he said that he had also heard of this but could not say for sure. I have only seen one other Remington 700 with this (*) markings. The barrel is also a tea-green in color.

Does anyone actually have any insight into this question? If so, your help and wealth of knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

If this is Common knowledge, can you show me where or point me in the right direction?
