Ok, I had a Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 for my Grendel. Liked the scope but the damn tight eyebox past 15X annoyed me so much I sold the scope. Now wishing a bit different.....Anyway, for those of you that have the 2.5-15x50 or have used the 2.5-15x50 how is the eyebox after 10x? Is it the same as the 4.5-27x50 or is it more generous?

The glass was better than I expected, even in dusk/dawn. The BTR has almost 4" of eye relief. That is more than plenty for the WM. That wasn't the issue. It is hard to get on target above 15x because of the "tight" eyebox.

I do not have any experience with the Cronus. It should be better overall than the Ares.

This isn't exactly the route I was hoping this thread would go.

This thread kinda took a different turn.

I am looking to find out if the 2.5-15x50 Ares BTR has a tight eye box at higher magnification. Meaning, is it hard to get on target quickly above 10x. The 4.5-27x50 is difficult to get on target easily because of the tight eye box above 15x....

I couldn't tell any difference between the 2.5-15 or 4.5-27 Ares as far as eyebox. Neither were bad to me. That's why I suggested looking at a different and more expensive line of scopes.

The gun I had the 4.5-27 on doesn't justify any higher end glass. The Ares price point was about all I wanted invested in the glass. Should have kept the scope as it was fine to 15x but I could not get on the reticle/target quickly above that. If the 2.5-15 is the same for you then I suspect the eyebox is just as bad as the 4.5-27 at some power level to me.

I have the 4.5-27 and I don’t find the eye box to be tight either. I actually feel it’s really easy to shoot from barricades and other positions. What kind of buttstock do you have? Does it adjust for cheek weld?

It's a UBR Magpul. Using a SPR mount. I have 10 ar15/10's that have a similar set ups with Leupold and Nighforce scopes. Zero issues. The 4.5-27 was fine up to 15x after that it was finding a needle in a haystack.

I'm using the 2.5-15x50 on my coyote rig. I find the eye box to be quite generous.I think the reticle is a bit thick for fine long range work at 15 power though.500y and in is fine.

I have the 4.5-27 and I agree it’s a bugger above 20x to get on target (eyebox) especially for people not used to the scope. I always turn it down for other shooters to use

Unfortunately as I mentioned above I "had" the scope. I sold it and was looking for something else when the whole question about the 2.5-15 came up. That is the scope I'm looking at now, not the 4.5-27.
