Ok
Fixing to buy a Bergara HMR pro and looking for the right glass to accommodate this this rifle.
I will be using it to hunt, shoot steel, and shoot some matches. Wanting a “do all gun” not really into collecting safe queens.

I know the rule of thumb is spend around the same for glass as the rifle. I’ve looked at the similar priced scopes as the $1500 rifle and always go back to the tac.

Please help me spend my money wisely!!!

Like most FFP scopes with finer line thickness, not the best for hunting in low light on low power, more so without illumination.

I'd rather use the Ares BTR's if hunting is higher up on the priority list. Especially the 2.5-15 with hunting in mind, though the 4.5-27 isn't bad at all on 4.5x.

Little soap box moment incoming.... take it for what it cost you :)

I think the feature set of the Midas Tac is perfect for a hunting scope. I must be in the minority but I absolutely abhor the combination illumination/parallax knob combo on my hunting scopes. Had an Ares BTR and you really had to put an effort in to fine tune the parallax out in cold weather with gloves, even without gloves its difficult. Give me a solo or at minimum big easy to find and handle parallax knob please. I’ve also never once used illumination on a hunt.

I’ve also killed close to a dozen animals inside 100 yards with FFP scopes over the last 8 years and never once struggled with a small reticle. At that distance POA needs to be what? Less than 10MOA....? I could do that with a peep sight and no front post.... maybe ha

In the end use what you think you need for peace of mind or whatever gives you confidence!

That rule of thumb is outdated. Nowadays it’s recommended to “buy the best optic you can comfortably afford.”

Generally speaking, with modern rifles, you can get away spending less on the rifle and more on glass if your budget allows.

If you can afford $1500 glass without sacrificing ammo/training/bill money, don’t be looking to save a penny with $500 glass.

Not taking anything away from the Midas Tac for its features vs price point. But it ain’t gonna compare favorably to a $1500 optic.

If you can afford it, I’d be looking into a Cronus or Mark 5. Even an ares etr.
