What height bipod do you recommend for prone and bench shooting? I've never done much shooting from a short bipod (only tall bipods for seated shooting) and I want to start. I'm really thinking about getting an Atlas PSR but they're offered in the BT46 which is 4.75"-9" and the BT47 which is 7"-13".

I'm leaning towards the taller BT47 because I can't see needing (often) to go down to 5" height when shooting at a bench or prone - that seems awfully low - but 7" sounds about right and the extra height would get me up over some taller grass, wouldn't it? This is nothing but guesswork, though. Sure would like to hear from some guys that have already figured all this stuff out. FWIW, I'm 6' 2" tall with long arms.

Unless you're shooting at targets that are at an inclination quite often, I'd stay with the BT46. Especially if you shoot from a bench. You can always add on the 3" extenders if necessary.

Build a support under the front of your rifle in the positions you want to duplicate and be comfortable in. You can stack up magazines/books (the old fashion printed kind) under the fore-end until you get to the right height. Measure how tall the stack is and you will have the info you need for your purchase. Dont forget to allow for a little elevation under the buttstock of the rifle, this will help you decide on what size rear bag/support you need as well. Atlas products, and all kinds of bags are available at Triad:
