I am contemplating a Camo paint job on my weatherby vanguard and was wondering if anyone has used automotive enamel paint to paint their rifles. I work at a dealership, so I have access to good paint through work, but wanted to know if anyone else has gone this route, and if so what were the results? I am going to do a flat olive drab and tan Camo pattern using an air brush, with an ultra flat clear over the stock and barrel/action. Not doing the bolt.

Re: Automotie paint for stock/barrel

This XP stock was done with automotive paint. I don't think I'd go this route if the gun was going to see rough use though.

I would say this would work well as long as you use a bonding agent on all plastics that have been wiped with prepsol and some self etching primer on a grease/oil free barrel and action. This would work very well. Had better put some extra hardener in the finish clear coat so that it will be abrasion resistant. Should work well and look cool if you do all the necessary prep.

And some extra flex agent.
