I'm newer to long range shooting and after a month or so of lurking and reading and learning I've decided what pieces I want to purchase for my rifle. What's shocking to me in this economy is the lack of availability or wait times on things like a McMillan stock or Surgeon action. Even the barrel I want has a wait time of 60 days. I dont get it.

I wanted to have something built by summer but its not looking like that's going to materialize.

Re: Availability of rifle parts

The WTB section here is your friend, I could have most parts for any build in a month or so. You may have to have a little give and take, but something close is sitting in someones closet.

What are you looking to build, I'll try to point you in the right direction.

Re: Availability of rifle parts

Well for starters I wanted a McMillan A5 with the #7 contour with the sniper fill and added flush cups (10 months). A Surgeon action (no lead time given) and Badger BM (back ordered)and a Bartlein #7 in 22 inches 5R rifling (60 days). The Jewell trigger I wanted with the safety and mag release is back ordered also. I'm not even factoring sending it to a reputable rifle builder. Their turn times are months out also.

Re: Availability of rifle parts

Well here's my two cent. BTW I'm currently hammered so this may not make a bunch of scene. But if these is a gun smith out there with the working capital to stock high end parts i.e. stocks, actions, barrels, bottom metal, etc and give customers a choice of in stock parts they could make a killing getting a rifle turned around in 30 days or so. Turn around time means a lot to some and not so much to others. If I could get a rifle in a month instead of a year or more that would weigh heavy in my decision. I may have had 7 irish car bombs and numerous other libations but I think that some of these waiting times are out of hand. Maybe I will feel different about this in the morning with my massive hangover. BTW is it sad that I check the hide before I go to bed? Anyway, I digress. It seems that waiting is part of the game. I really think that these turn around times could be improved with some proper investing to stock popular parts... but then again what do I knows? Jason is right, the for sale section is a God-send for finding hard to get parts at good prices. If you're in a hurry you may have to compromise a bit but that's part of the game. A Mcdonalds fish fillet sound really good right now hold the tartar. BTW lots of great sticks for sale in the rifles sections right now. A sick .243 among others. Buy that and be the coolest kid on the block.
