A lot of you have a very, very limited notion of what New Jersey is really like. "Garbage State," landfills, obnoxious suburbanites living asshole to bellybutton, Mafiosi, it suffers a ton of stereotypes. But, in the corners, so to speak, with the exception of the one along the Hudson, there's a Jersey a helluva lot like some of the places that some of you inhabit.

And after a long, long roll, there wasn't a muskrat fry this year in one now sad little burg. Damn.

"Who live an isolated existence removed from the civilized world in New Jersey’s Ramapo Mountains. As far back as the revolutionary war New Jerseyans have heard, and told, tales of a motley group of social outcasts who had taken refuge in the northeastern hills of the state and inbred to the point of mutation. The group, which has been alleged to be comprised of a mongrel hybrid of renegade Indians, escaped slaves, Hessian mercenary deserters, and West Indian prostitutes, have come to be known as the Jackson Whites."

Sounds like good 'ole Deplorables to me, and how the MSM sees all of us outside of their beltways and freeways. I'd party with those Northern Cajuns anytime

They eat fried muskrat, so their lack of aversion to eating essentially anything seems to suggest they are very close kin.

Be careful where it winds up. Get too close to certain parts and they'll be pairing it with quinoa, loving it, and eating all your nutria.

They've already tried that in a way: they renamed it into something palatable-sounding and built packaging facilities to export meat to China. I haven't heard much about it since so I don't know how well it worked.

One "concern" South La does not have is running out of Nutria, or missing them if they were gone for that matter.

Was it "punkin pie"?

Grew up in northern Bergen County and would always hear tales of about "Jackson Whites" living in the Ramapo's. Back then it was pretty rural with farms and woodlands. Grew up hunting and fishing. Moved to NM in 75 and never looked back. Area is mostly developed now.

A sign at a local country store here a while back. Similar but different...

Similar, but different was sort of my point with this.

The Jersey that few of you have seen:
