Awesome fishing trip in the gulf this past weekend

Had a good two days going after some red snapper and grouper this past weekend

We were in Sarasota in March and went out with a local guide.

Those grouper are fun as hell to catch!

What is the limit these days on grouper?

When I was young (a geological era ago haha) my uncle ran charters out of Tampa and would take me with him when I was down to visit as a young teenager. He would cast a new in the bay for bait and then head out...oh, maybe 40 miles or so to get in deeper water and there was no season or limit on grouper. We caught...and ate a lot of fish....this would have been in the 60's/early 70's.

IMO, its not the sport fishermen who are depleting the fisheries but rather the commercial guys. Same here on the Chesapeake Bay with what most of you call Stripped Bass (Rockfish if you live in the Communist State of Maryland). But, the limits are placed on the sport fishermen while the commercial guys are still hauling it in.

Just my uninformed view.

We went Saturday out of Orange Beach and had fun catching snapper.

In your pics it looks like it was calm where you were at. It was rough off Orange Beach. Several guys on the boat were begging for dry land. lol

it was calm friday, saturday was another story. we fish out of PCB,FL. Thats a 42 ft hydrasport and i wouldnt have went on anything smaller

If you have any Army affiliation, they have an MWR down there that rents boats and may have info on some fishing trips. Other than that, Egland AFB is up the road a few miles as well and may have some info on trips going out.
