So I purchased an AIAT (pic below) last year with the help of you guys, huge thank you for the help

The time has come to upgrade my long action from a savage to an AI. Already in the process of selling guns not used to fund the purchase.

    So my questions are,

    1) How are the ergonomics on the AI in the pic below compared to the AXMC? Reason I ask is people say try them out before you buy. Nobody I’m aware of has the AXMC near me.

To be honest the AIAT fits me unbelievably well and the most comfortable gun I’ve been behind and would almost rather go AW vs the AX. I wouldn’t mind a similar rifle to the AT I currently have now

    2) How much would I regret not getting the quick lok barrel change on the AXMC. I have it on the AIAT and have no plans to sell it. I don’t plan to run anything other than a 300 WM or PRC barrel on the long action. But when time to change the barrel what am I loosing just using a vice or shipping in to have it swapped out etc?

    Thanks for the input

I have a AIAX ergonomics are similar to the MC I think 🤔. Man I love this rifle very easy to setup to tailor for you with quick adjust LOP, comb, and butt pad.

If you are buying new can you even get the non quick lok barrel change? I don't even see the MC listed on MH or EO websites anymore anything for long action just shows the newer SR for long action. To answer your question I would definitely go quick lok if I had the choice.

    GOOD LUCK!

Either one I would be shopping used. Correct the AW and AXMC are not available new

I’m just wondering because I know I enjoy the AW style if I should jump on a deal if I come across one. Or if it’s worth it to wait for a used AXMC to come along. Most likely at a higher price tag

I’ll admit I have a love for the old school AW’s set up like my AT is

Also should mention I’m considering a Sako trg 42 if I come across one. Have looked into desert tech. As well as MRAD. Have been reading a lot on which people prefer but still coming back to the AI

    I wouldn’t mind a desert tech either.
Seems people really like them for the magnum calibers. Never handled one tho

If anyone has the AXMC, MRAD, DT feel free to talk me into your favorite as I’m still up in the air

I have an AXMC with 6.5 and 300 Norma barrels and it’s essentially my only bolt gun (I have another but considering selling it as I don’t shoot it anymore). In short, I love the AXMC. Barrel changes take 30 seconds or so, feeds short and long action rounds just fine and has tons of aftermarket support. Had an AXSA for a while two years ago and the AXMC feels the same to me, ergonomically. Only minor quibble is that I have to fold the stock to take off the bolt but I’m really reaching here with this criticism. I will be ordering the grip mod kit for the rifle soon. although the stock grip is fine, I like the option to swap grips.

comparing the AXMC to my mk13 Mod 5 (sold this rifle last year), I like the AXMC’s chassis’ ergos better but that’s just me.

Are you planning to shoot more than one long action chambering? If so, the AXMC is a no-brainer assuming the price is fair. If only going to shoot one (and real firm on that) than maybe a AWM or TRG would give you want you want for significantly less outlay.

I’ve never shot an MRAD or DT.

This will be the big brother to the AT which gets used for hunting. Crop damage tags on whitetail deer. So it will be a long range hunting rifle. The AT I use to 500 yards primarily. This would primarily cover 500-1000 yards. With the ability to go further for targets etc

I definitely won’t be using for comps or having a need to swap barrels in the field. I’m set on it being a 30 cal. 300 WM for the AW or 300 PRC possibly if I go AXMC. This is so I can run my TBAC ultra 9 30 cal on it. The only barrel change I see myself doing is when the barrel is shot out

My setup right now in a 300 WM is a savage 110 and although it fills the roll the AI is a whole other animal and I want that for LR/ELR

I wouldn’t mind getting back into the 338 LM either. But for my needs the 300 just makes more sense I think

Ergos are essentially the same on the axmc as far as the grip and lop. Even with your thumbhole stock the front of your thumbhole is the same profile as The ax grip. The check piece is better imo on the ax but should feel close to the same.

Let me know if you want to let that AT go. I got a line on a black axmc.

Also I currently run an axmc as well and love it.....

If your between AXMC and a DT

AXMC feellike a mercedes and the DT feels like go cart.

Fit and finish aren’t in the same league.

Bolt operation not in the same league

    nevermind the difference in mags

both are more accurate than the shooter

I bought the MC first, then a covert DT, noticed the huge difference, so then I bough a AX short action.

    Havnt shot my DT since

Thank you for the responses. Been doing a ton of reading on the options. I liked the idea of the DT but what @brianf referred to above is the general consensus I’m seeing across owners of both.

I also looked into the MRAD and still think the AI is the way to go.

I’m thinking just going the AXMC route. Way easier to have the AI with the quick loc system and what not and say I really haven’t used it, rather than be 2 years down the road and wishing I bought it. Unless a deal on an AW comes along in the meantime

The 300 Norma looks like a good choice
