AXMC for F-Class and PRS?

I'm seriously considering investing in an AXMC now that the price has dropped. I've got some history with military long range shooting more than a decade ago, but want to get back into it. I've never attended F-Class or PRS events, but I'd like to give them a try. I've listened to almost all of the Everyday Sniper podcasts, so I have some idea of what I'm getting into. My goal isn't necessarily to win events. I'd like to focus on bettering my skills without worrying about rifle performance. I also like the idea of having an adaptable rifle and only buying one scope (probably a NF 5-25 ATACR).

My thought is to get the .338 LM, and a 6.5 CM conversion. The cost of that setup is more than I'd like to spend, but I'm at the f-it stage in my life. I briefly spoke with someone at Mile High, and they said that there is no issue with 6.5 primers if I shoot factory ammo, which I had planned to do anyway.

I'm slightly concerned about the weight - whether it would be too heavy for F-Class without having to spring for carbon and titanium parts.

I'd appreciate some input on whether an AXMC makes sense, or whether I'd be better off just buying dedicated rifles.

NF 5-25 ATACR Ahem, well there is just no help for it. NF has those who wax poetic and love them. The glass is nice on them but the turrets are not quite where they should be. I've Handled two beasts that had the POI shift .2 Mil depending on weather the last power adjustment had been up or down. I have a NSX that does not track well.

You will have 10 guys come on and tell you I'm a moron. OK I'm a moron, but if it were my money I would add a few bucks ($3,499) and get the S&B 3-27x56 or keep a few bucks in my pocket and get the Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27 ($1,849).

Its your money but, the guys that pumped the NF won't be there to help you figure it out.

If you like the look and you're good with the weight the AXMC is solid.

I make f open weight with my axmc...barley. I think it's a riot but I just use my fclass matches as good live dope gathering sessions with some wind practice. If you seriously want to compete you would be better off with a dedicated fclass rig.

I've shot f open for several years now with an Eliseo chassis. Not an a.i. but honestly I never feel handicapped by the chassis. I am converting to a true f class stock next season though.
The Achilles heel for the a.i. would probably be that there isn't a wide bag Rider for the a.i. to ride in a good rest. I don't think there is anyway.

I guess it depends on your theory of use and how often you will take advantage of the multi-caliber capabilities of the rifle, but you may want to think about "ease of zero stop reset" in your scope consideration. Some are easier than others and if you switch calibers frequently, you will spend a lot of time fighting it.

S&B's MTC turrets for example are love it or hate it, but resetting them is about as foolproof as it gets and never 'opens' up the scope.

If you are planning to shoot F Open Class, meaning any caliber and machine front rest, you won't be competitive with an AI. If you shoot F/TR, meaning 308 or 223 only and front bipod only, you would have a chance. I shoot F/TR with a DTA and do pretty well.
