Any opthamologists/optometrists out there? How would you advise us baby boomers to approach the scope buying business? Buy a scope and use our bifocals or find a scope we can use sans glasses. My presbyopia makes things difficult, but i still enjoy shooting and haven't been declared legally blind yet! Thanks.

Re: Baby boomer eyes

Well, most good scopes have sufficient adjustment range of the ocular lens - the one closest to your eye - to allow shooting without glasses.

A relevant question, though, is what kind of shooting you do.

If you are a tactical rifle competitor or hunter, then surely you will want to have your glasses on when you are shooting.

If you are a benchrest or square range competitor, where all that will matter is your ability to observe the target through the scope, then you may not need your glasses.

However, I wear glasses with progressive lenses. In almost all shooting positions, I'm looking at the scope reticle through the part of the lens ground for distance vision, and there is no issue. I just focus the ocular lens so that the reticle is clear and sharp, and I have no other issues.

That title hits it on the nose and is very succinct. I always have this same issue as to know that I dialed the scope correctly. I recently got a Vortex Razor and I am sure they didn't mean it this way but the numbers on the turret are really large and I can see them easily without glasses on

Getting older sucks and this bi-product of losing my 20/20 vision is aggravating so I feel your pain.

Re: Baby boomer eyes

I am a baby boomer myself and wear progressive glasses
I have 3 Nightforce and I am in the process of changing all of them
and I will be buying scopes (S@B) they have fast focus eyepiece but there is a lot of brand that has them
no matter what I tried could never have a sharp reticle, yes for one position but has soon as you shot from a different bench or prone on a inclined sitting etc the fuzzy monster appeared
tried many fast focus eyepiece scope and a charm to just reach out and focus that reticle for the position that you are in
remember I tried a Swarovsky and I could take my glasses of but has said above don't try this for tactical competition but for benchrest OK
go at the range and ask to try a few of them and your choice will be easy FAST FOCUS EYEPIECE
