Picked up this used Mcmillan stock for a good price that already had inlet done for Badger M5, once I receive it and dropped in my M5 I realized in sat in the stock very deep. My question is
What are my options? Can this be properly fixed?

Check the feeding with the current inlet. If its not pillared, it can be fixed during bedding with proper length pillars & the bottom metal bedded after the action bedding cures.

Or, shim the M5 with small washers until you get desired depth and bed the M5 in place. It can be fixed my friend.

Sounds like now would be a perfect time to install the pillars and do a proper bedding job. I would want to re-bed it anyways if it had been bedded to another action already, pillars or not.

I agree, just get everything perfect with whatever action I decide to go with

Thanks for all the help.

Looks like it could be inletted for a 'Tactical Rifles' bottom metal. The perimter print is the same, but their bottom metal is thicker (deeper). Just an idea.

Re: Badger M5 inlet too deep

Derrick,

No matter what brand of DBM bottom metal you have, the Z-axis between the DBM and the action is FIXED and cannot venture very far from a specified dimension.

Basically, a DBM bottom system has to position the inserted magazine so that a cartridge can be picked up by the bolt as it is pushed forward.

Too high (or too close to the action) and the DBM magazine latch will not engage. The magazine hits the bottom of the receiver before it's position is correct in the DBM.

Too low (or too far away from the action) and the DBM magazine will latch into place but the resulting position of the assembly will place the magazine and it's captive round of ammo too low for the bolt to push/feed into the chamber.

So the distance between the receiver and DBM cannot vary out of spec without causing serious issues. Accordingly the receivers position in the stock and even the design of the stock will dictate where your bottom metal finally comes to rest relative to the bottom inlet of the stock.

If your stock is too thick through the middle or the action is bedded too high in the stock, the DBM will always fit below flush. Of course if the situation is reversed, the results will be a DBM that is proud or sticks out too much below the stock.

Standard floorplate and internal box mag setups can work past this limitation easily. DBM systems simply cannot.

Only recourse you have is to get the proper Z-axis offset or pillar length recommended by the DBM maker and work from the bottom up or split the difference.

Best,
Terry
