Gunsmithing Badger Thruster Break

Re: Badger Thruster Break

My Badger Thruster adds 2.25" to my barrel.

Couldn't tell you how far they can be turned down but the Sendero has a fairly heavy contour barrel so it should not be a problem.

Re: Badger Thruster Break

I just had a 45-degree bevel put on the back of the one I put on my Varmint barrel, it's same contour as the Sendero. It looks ok to me.

My thoughts were I could easily reutilize the brake if I rebarrel to a heavier contour down the road.

Looks good, I think I'll do that with mine. I accidentally ordered the 3/4"-28 version thinking my barrel was a heavier contour than it really is.

Send it back and get the 5/8x24, you'll be happier and the 3/4 version doesn’t leave much of a shoulder for the Varmint contour barrel.

You think so? My barrel is .875" at the muzzle and that would only give me a 1/16" face after being threaded 3/4"-28. I was giving this some thought today and was wondering if this was enough engagement. For some reason I had it in my head that by barrel was .925", but when I measured it again turns out I remembered incorrectly. It is a Savage 10FCP contour.

Sure you could get away with it but still too close for my liking. Plus the 5/8x24 is more common.

Thanks, I've got the 5/8-24 version inbound now. I still don't think I'll turn down the brake to match the barrel though.

The FTE adds about 1.5" to the length of my gun.
