I just got a Kestrel that gives me density altitude. When I try to plug that into the Ballistic app I get an error that the number is out or range. I think I need to convert the number I get from my Kestrel to the same unit of measurement used in Ballistic app. What do I need to do?

You have to change the preference in Ballistic to use density altitude in the settings before running the app.

What number are you putting in?

Density altitude is a number which can easily go negative - right now, for example, the density altitude at Fargo, North Dakota, is -4230 feet.

The program writers may not have accomodated negative numbers.

I tried putting in 1805 for the DA when I got the error. It seems like it wants a decimal and the unit of measurement the software uses is lb/ft3

Pounds per cubic foot is a unit for air density. If it wants an input in those units for density altitude, the program is screwed up, because the unit of measurement of density altitude is feet, or meters if the program has the option to use metric measurements.

I suggest that you contact the publisher of the program. A reasonable range for DA should run from at least -4000 feet to at least 15,000 feet.

Re: Ballistic 2.2x has Density Altitude but...

According to http://ballistic.zdziarski.com/

- Added "Density Altitude" input format to atmosphere format settings
- Fixed default Density of Air value for metric mode

So maybe that will take care of the issues. In my experience, the author has been quite responsive to reasonable requests for new features as well as fixing problems. If the problem persists, I'd contact him. Given the crap that any iPhone/Touch developer has to put up with dealing with Apple, I'm amazed how often he updates and improves Ballistic.
