Ballistic Package for a Beginner

Hello,

Do yall have any recommendations for a ballistic software for a beginner? Preferably something not too expensive. Even better if you can run it on a phone. I don't really know enough to pick one of google yet. Any advice?

You can download Strelok for free in the app store or on Google Play. It's a great program for getting your feet wet.

Not a phone, but the Kestrel series meters also. If you don’t have a way to read environment now, you are going to need it anyhow (whether you get a ballistics model or not).

Don’t trust the environmental conditions that get pulled down via some of those apps either!

Hornady has a decent app you can download on your phone for free.

I agree that the Hornady app is top notch and its free so very hard to beat. If you shoot Hornady bullets its a no brainer. Many apps allow limited use for free and are worth checking out - Strelok, Trasol, BallisticsArc

Strelok free is a good beginner app and the Pro version is very good for non beginners as well.

I am a fan of Strelok Pro (spend the $12 to get the Pro version). It's SUPER-easy to use, whereas the others are more cumbersome, IMO.

I shoot Hornady Bullets, and since its free Ill grab that one. Strelok sounds like a deal too at 12 dollars to have two to play with. Thank you everyone.

If you're on Facebook, be sure to join the Strelok users group. The developer, Igor Borisov, is there and makes himself VERY available. If you're not on FB, he's also responsive to emails with questions or suggestions. He FREQUENTLY updates and adds features to the app, whereas most other developers may do it once a YEAR, if you're lucky.

I just purchased it but can’t figure out how to input my muzzle velocity like I can with the Ballistic AE app.

Yes. You can enter it there. You also have the opportunity to enter multiple muzzle velocities measured at different temperatures (to use the powder temp feature). Otherwise, just enter one.

I am a beginner and tried several apps, but the Strelok Pro is my far and away favorite, I tried the Hornady and the Lapua App but much prefer the Strelok Pro. As noted above the owner is extremely active and helpful. The interface seemed logical to me.
