Ballistics Question

Is there a computer program/simulator that can give balistics using type of powder and weight and projectile weight along with bore???

Reason I ask, I just shot my *gun* and blew it up. Now this thing has been through some high pressure shots but this time, the breech let go. In a hell of a way.

I was just wondering about some estimated pressures and velocities. I know they are off the charts, I have proof.

1000 +/- 20 gr of Power Pistol
1750 gr projectile
.875 bore

Any guesses on pressure and velocity?

Are you serious or just trolling? You had "high pressure shots" and didn't back off? If what you say is true, and it's pretty hard to believe, you need to forget the "computer program" and "estimated pressures and velocities" and such garbage and get back to the basics of reloading. That would be start at the lower end of published loads and BACK OFF when signs of high pressure occur.

In one test of supposedly identical rifles shooting supposedly identical ammunition, velocity difference between, as I recall, 10 rifles was as much as 200 fps different.

You just built a pipe bomb...that is an extreme amount of any pistol powder. I'd say you're lucky if you weren't seriously injured.

Trolling???? That ain't me. And they don't have "published loads" for this. It wasn't a pipe bomb either. We were gonna build a ballistic pendulum to get the data, but can't now.

I think you should re-evaluate many things in your life.

Afterwards, you might consider a slower burning powder - something more appropriate for .50bmg or 20mm.

There is an application called "Quickload" that will derive pressure and other ballistic info based on powder, bullet,...

If you have already blown up a gun (and survived) I think you need to read a reloading book (or three) AND spend a couple hours reading up on "Pressure Signs". To have blown up a rifle means that you are way WAY over the edge of sane pressures--and the Brass would have been telling you to back down.

Buy Quickload and read the manuals. Note that in any prediction, the manuals and QL all tell you to NOT depend upon projected pressures and velocities, but to start low and work up. Ballistic pendulums work, but it takes experts to sort out results/errors due to friction in the bearings, measurements, etc. I personally think QL, manuals, a decent chronograph, JBM, and actually firing the drops will give you more information. JMHO (I see you are in Oxford...that means Ole Miss. Ya'll probably need to mosey on over to Starkville and ask the Engineers over there.)
