Gunsmithing Barrel andTwist for .308

A friend is looking to build his first semi tactical bolt gun that can shoot to 1000 yrds.

What barrel maker and what twist do you feel is optimal for this build???

Rock, Obermeyer, Bartlein are amongst the finest IMO. 1/10 to 1/11.5 is a good twist.

Ive personally owned Broughton 5C 1/11 and Bartlein 5R 1/11 barrels in 308, both shot less than .300 groups at 100 yds, but dont limit yourself to the brands i have mentioned.

We use Shilen barrels on our builds unless the client specifies otherwise. 1-10 twist can handle up to a 210 gr bullet with no problem. Usually the 175 gr. Sierra Matchking or the Hornady 178 gr AMAX work very well and can stay supersonic beyond 1000 yds with as little as a 22" barrel.

I put a kreiger on mine.
My 308 is 1-10 and my 6.5*47 is 1-8.5

I use a Krieger 1-12" with really good resuls. I wanted to be able to shoot the 155's, 168's and the 175's. I believe the 1-12" can handle up to a 190 gr bullet.
