Re: barrel break in question

Does it matter if it is a stock manufactured barrel vs. say for instance a bartlein barrel? Just wondering if the rifling of the stock barrel would actually "need" a break in because of quality perhaps... burrs and what not?

Shoot it. Clean it when the accuracy falls off. Search the 'net for Gale McMillan's writing on the topic.

Re: barrel break in question

Total BS, a hand lapped SS tube is just that, firing cleaning firing cleaning wears it out faster, causing the user to spend more money on another barrel, just shoot the dam thing and use the search function

Re: barrel break in question

I use the same rounds to "break in" my barrel as I normally shoot.

For that matter I shoot them like I would normally shoot. I repeat the process until the rifle is "broke in". Then I clean it about 500-600 rounds later.

It's a great break in process. It's really fun to watch some expressions at the range when you tell the guy who is furiously scrubbing his new rifle with copper solvent.

Re: barrel break in question

If the barrel is lapped its broken in. Whats not is the throat. I check mine after the first few shots with 3 or 4 wet patches if i dont see much i will 5 or 10 rounds and just go one. If you do find a bunch of coppers get most of it out and repeat with a few more shots. All barrels will be different some will copper up very little others will copper up alot....
