Gunsmithing Barrel chamber/throat question.

Re: Barrel chamber/throat question.

Jim Thanks for the reply. I was thinking more of a bore that was at least the legenth on the bearing surface on a longer bullet. Reason being, I have seen several posts about guys loading to magazine legenth but their rifles shoot better with the bullet a few thou off the lands. I was just thinking if there was a bullet diameter bore that would align the bullet it would possibly help out in that situation. Although I suspect it would not work because of the expansion as the bore heats up.

Re: Barrel chamber/throat question.

Hu as stated above that is the leade it can be specified on my match reamers i have them 1/10th of a thou larger than the projectile so a 6mm projectile measures .243 i have the leade .2431 and after that you have a tapered throat that can be between 1 and 3 degrees but 1.5 is standard. also most Weatherby magnums have close to 1/2" freebore.

Hope that helps you can choose the diameter and length on all custom reamers and can also get a throating reamer and specify the diameter and then run it into the barrel as far as you want.
