I have a Remington 5R Gen 1 none threaded rifle. I am thinking of getting a new barrel on it and having the action trued. I am going to be keeping and using the HS precision stock with this set up for the time being.

My question is this. Does anyone know which contour Remington puts on these rifle? If I buy to heavy of a countour is there a chance it won't fit into the stock and free float? I like heavier barrels and was looking at a Bartlein #13 Remington Varment. Suggestion?? I'm all ears here guys. Thanks!

Remington has different barrel contours so it’s difficult to say what you have for certain. Just measure your current barrel and choose the barrel contour that closely matches your current barrel.

It’s a varmit contour
Very easy to remove matierial to accommodate heavier contours

The bartlein Remington varmint contour will be almost exactly what you already had as long as the gunsmith cuts the shank to the same length as your factory barrel. You might see other companies call it the sendero contour which is also very close.

If you want to go heavier just get a 1" wooden dowel rod and some coarse sand paper. Wrap the sand paper around the rod and run it in the barrel channel to get the desired diameter. This method is very easy to do a nice job even if it is your first time.
