I have a Savage model 10FP in .308 Win. It is accurate but I have never liked the barrel. It has always been a copper mine. Even if I only shoot 3 or 4 rounds I have to clean with copper remover at leat 3 or 4 cycles. Since it was brand new, before one shot was fired through it, there was pits in barrel and you can see all the reamer marks.

The other night I had it out for a quick oiling as I live near the beach and have to oil my guns every month or so to prevent rust. I was carefully inspecting the crown and noticed some very minor deformation I had never seen before. I have never looked for it but I saw it. I am not sure it came from me as I have always been extremely careful when cleaning not to let the cleaning rod or jag touch the crown.

So, I am thinking about replacing the barrel finally. I am thinking about the Shilen Savage replacement barrels that are already chambered and ready to go and have a few questions.

1)Does anyone have any experience with these barrels or Shilen in general? Would you recommend them?

2)Who would you guys recommend to install/headspace the barrel?

3)I want a stock looking matte Savage finish. Who would you guys reccomed to do the finish and what kind of finish would you recommend?

Thank you all I appreciate all the knowledge you guys can give me.
