Suppressors barrel length question suppressor combination...??

I've a Ruger 22/45, mark 2., with a 5.5" heavy barrel. I have nearly 2 full 5-gallon buckets of standard and Hi-vel .22 ammo.

I have the Ruger at a GunSmith/machinist and should I ask him to cut the barrel to 3.5" or 4" in order to change(reduce) the velocity of the above ammo?

I am thinking 3.5"...

in a 22lr most standard velocity ammo will remain subsonic when fired out of a 5.5 inch barrel. Its not an absolute, but generally speaking 5.5 will keep it subsonic.
