Fellas I kow little to nothing about the .260 Rem. but I have heard it is very flat shooting and now I'm looking at building a switch barrel gun .308/.260 combo. So my question is what is the typical barrel life on the .260?

I know milage will vary from user to user, but it won't be shot hard. Mostly target shooting 5 shot groups and given ample time to cool. Also I'm loking to shoot the 139-142 grainers. Thanks.

Re: Barrel life on a .260 Rem.

I shoot the 140 AMAX moving at the slower spectrum of things 2800ish range with H4831SC, the guys running RE17 and 4350 are pushing high 2800 low 2900. The barrel life is give or take 2500-3500 depending on what you think is unacceptable accuracy for the barrel starting to "go". Another thing that is unrelated, but a switch barrel rifle is awesome in theory but in the long run it kinda falls on its face due to the little things that are needed when switching barrels. I have a S/B gun and if i could do it again id just build 2 guns.

If you pamper it you might get as much as 500 to 800 rounds of guilt edge accuracy before the edges wear down. Most benchrest shooters I know recrown after 200 to 500 rounds and rechamber the barrel at 2000 if it's a good barrel. If you aren't shooting any kind of competition with it where they measure the overall aggrigates to .0001" (one ten thousandth of an inch), you'll probably be fine longer.
