What is the barrel life on a Remington 700 in a .308?
How do you know when its bad and time to change it?

It all depends on if it is a factory tube or a quality barrel. Factory tubes don't take nearly as much to make it go. My SPS Varmint went at around 4k, maybe a little more. But my bartlein has around 4-5k through it and still shoots tiny holes.

Accuracy goes to shit and doesn't come back. It isn't as quick on 308's as compared to the other barrel burning cartridges, but you will still know when it goes.

Bad is relative.

Most Palma shooters will setback barrel around 3500 rnds as it will no longer hold vertical at longer ranges.

When you are no longer able to hold "required" vertical dispersion at distance, that is when I'd change out the barrel. "Required" is going to be determined by the game you are playing. F-class "requires" a bit tighter vertical (0.5 MOA) than does typical tactical or hunting scenario (1 MOA).
