Was wondering I just picked up a brand new remington 700 sps varmint. I desided to check the chamber with my hornady OAL case lenth. I know saami specs for 308 is 2.80. I am getting 2.93 to the lands with a 168 nosler cc.

Any insight would help.

Re: barrel out of spec?

Normal, only way you'll get a shorter lead is to have custom chamber cut.

RL-15, Varget, N-140 and 168 Nosler CC jumping 0.130" will be just fine.

There is no "spec" for the lead in chamber. 2.800" OAL spec is so it will feed through the magazine, any longer and it may not fit magazine of "factory" rifle.
Check your OAL with a Win 180 PP, bet you are 2.820" or dang close.

Re: barrel out of spec?

well I am wanting to run hornady 178 Amax in the rifle I hear most 700's like them. was going to try to develope a load with them.

Just making sure cause my other 700 in 223 is just about dead on.
