I have been kicking the idea around for a new barrel for my 16” tikka Tac a1(308). Was thinking of going with a mike rock 5r 1-11 or 1-11.25, would like to have an m24 taper put on it (as close to that profile as possible).

before I go this rout is their another brand I should look into or am I headed in the right direction (never had an action rebarreled)

the reason for the rebarrel is because from what I read sako/tikka barrels are slower then others

I did find my 6.5 CM tikka tac A1 to be slow. They are not the easiest thing to re-barrel from what I understand. I had mine done by a gunsmith. I called Tikka when I first wanted to get it done to see if they sell barrels. It was explained to me they use a shrink fit where the action would have to be heated to remove barrel. I would get some price quotes to see what your willing to spend to get it done. I know they put a relief cut at the interface and made more of a shoulder when they re-barreled mine. I'm happy with mine but it was expensive to get done.

I was quoted 375 I believe to install and profile the barrel

$375 seems like the standard market rate for chambering, muzzle threading, and install for a customer supplied barrel blank. I was quoted $400 earlier today.

ETA: In my experience, Tikka/Sako barrels are great and last slightly longer than aftermarket barrels but mine have also been a little slow with factory ammo. I personally wouldn't rebarrel just for more speed but if you're close to being a top 10 guy in the competitions you've been doing, maybe it's worth but I think there are way better places to put your money before you get to that point but that's just, like my opinion bro lol

sure I could sell my tikka for a trg lol

PVA has tikka pre-fit barrels either shouldered or barrel nut.

From my experience, swap the factoey barrel with a PVA prefit only takes about half hour at the gunsmith or if you have the right tools, you can do it at home.

Or yould get a Bartlein and let the gunsmith to do the new barrel fitting for you.

why bartlein over rock creek ?

I haven't tried any bartlein yet, just an option for you as quite a lot of top shooters prefer Bartlein or Krieger barrels.

Rock Creek also produces good quality barrel blanks and the Tikka prefit from PVA save you the hassle waiting for a gunsmith do the fitting for you.
