Is the thread count for the Winchester / FN SPR action different from the Rem 700 action where the barrel threads in? What is the thread count for each action? Also, is there a difference in the length the barrel needs to be threaded for each? I think the Remington is 1 inch and then a blank space for the recoil lug. Correct me if I am wrong. The Winchester / FN SPR has the lug build into the action, so would it be different? Obviously not I'm not a gunsmith, just trying to learn. Thanks. I am trying to get all my "ducks in a row" before I start a build on a FN action.

Re: Barrel threads

I am not a gunsmith - the threads are different. The FN, if controlled feed, also has an extractor cut in the chamber end of the barrel. If you are planning to use a pre-threaded barrel from a 700, you will have to cut off those threads and rethread for the FN (and cut the area for the extractor). Might be less expensive to buy a blank and have it threaded for your action.

Good luck
