hey fellas, sorry if this has been covered elsewhere or belongs in a different section. what im wondering is i want to cut, crown, and thread a semi auto .308 barrel and not sure which thread size/pitch to tell the gunsmith that would be most verasatile. ill want a new flash hider first but want to keep the most options. is this a standard thing or are there decisions here? thanks for any insight.

Re: barrel threads

Usually 5/8 x 24 is used for .30 cal. the pitch and depth may depend on the manufacturer of the items that you want to install. Smith Enterprise for example, uses a 5/8 x 24 x .735±” thread depth on their Vortex flash hiders.

Re: barrel threads

Yep...5/8x24 is the standard for .308 these days. Like jakhamr81 said...it is always a good idea to get with the manufacturer of the muzzle device (whether it be a FH/Brake/Suppressor Adapter/etc.) first and determine if there is not only a specfic thread pattern that is required, but also any contouring/profiling of the barrel that needs to be done as well.
