Looking at ordering a bartlein barrel for a 6.5 swede build. Bartlein has different tapers mentioned, palma, straight/match, sporter, etc. What is the difference between them besides the shape of them I can see in the diagrams. The rifle will be strictly a target shooting build. Suggestions on which to go with?

Every custom barrel maker has various barrel contours which is what you are describing. Pick the one that works best for your needs, I'm sure you will get plenty of replies about which one is perfect:)

For me since I mostly have hunting rifles, I'm a big fan of their 2b contour.

    The difference is the shape.
I personally really like the Palma contours.

The straight tapers can have more meat in the middle so can be heavier with a similar muzzle diameter.

Look at the weight of each blank at chosen finish length. Add up the other components of your rifles weight. Choose the one that gets you to your desired total weight.
If you have more detailed questions call Frank at Bartlein and he will steer you straight.

The contour for the most part I tell guys is only going to really effect the weight of the rifle.

If strictly a target type rifle and shooting off the bench and prone positions....the heavier the contour will tame the recoil of the rifle more and help you shoot better.

    I'd go with a #14 (M24/M40 contour) or the #7 MTU contour.

Will also depend on what/if you have a stock already and what it is inletted for.
