Rifle Scopes Base and/or rings for a Ruger M77

I have a friend that is wanting to dip his toes in long(er) range shooting, but he isn't wanting to buy a dedicated set up right now. He has a heavy barreled Ruger M77, and a Vortex Viper PST 30mm scope. For right now his max distance is around 600 yards. He asked me about a base/ring recommendation for the Ruger, I don't have, nor have I ever owned an M77 so I really don't know how to approach his problem. I don't think most of the manufacturers that I usually use, or recommend have options for that particular rifle. So for you guys that do, what are you using? Thanks.

Thanks Matador, one more question. His rifle is drilled and tapped where the front ring goes, but not on the rear, whats up with that? M77s are weird.

I just use the normal leupold rings and that’s pretty much all you’ll find unless you’re willing to drill and tap.
