Is the Rainier Arms Match worth the upgrade from a BCM ELW 16”? Will be building an upper soon using either the BCM ELW (21oz) or the Rainier Match 16” lightweight (26.7oz). Not really looking at the UM because the gain is not worth it for this build, maybe for a future SPR though.

BCM ELW:

Rainier Match:

Use: 0-50m 60%, 50-300m 39%, 300-500m 1% (if ever).
90% 55 grain fmj factory and 10% 77 grain SMK/73 ELDM reloads. Will probably see some light deer hunting.
1-1.5 moa is acceptable. Obviously I would like the reloads to be capable of sub MOA.

Optic used will be either an ACOG/RMR combo, Kahles k16i, NF NX8, or similar LPVO. Seriously leaning towards the ACOG/RMR combo though for the weight.

Rest of the upper with have a BCM MCMR 15”, Surefire Warcomp, BCM upper receiver, Rainier NiB BCG, Surefire weaponlight, Magpul MBUS Pro set, BCM KAG.

Lower is already built. Basic Aero lower with BCM guts, BCM furniture, and a Geissele SD-3G.

Any suggestions between the two barrels for my use?

If the majority of your shooting will be fmj ammo, get the BCM. Most bulk fmj ammo isn’t 1.5 moa ammo though. You’re looking at a 2-2.5 moa blaster

Well yeah, the accuracy requirement is strictly speaking to the reloads. I guess I’m thinking of the Rainier barrel because of the supposed gain in accuracy potential. The other hand, the CL BCM barrel is appealing.

Because of their weight and the manufacturer reputation.

Also if I go with the BCM, I’ll just buy their complete upper. Saw Rainier’s barrel when I was poking around their site and liked the weight of the barrel.
