Rifle Scopes BDC scope/turret

I know most on here won't even think about a BDC turret style scope but my question is if your shooting at the same elevation and usually the same temps wouldn't a BDC be just fine? And if you ever went to let's say a higher elevation you could have a different custom turret for that elevation, you'd just have to change or tune your zero? I'm still new into shooting at longer ranges and at putting together the right equipment. I have also just had standard Nikon's and Leupold's on my guns. Most guys I have asked say to get a Nightforce but when I look through a Nightforce it almost pushes me away because I have never used one and it seems a little complicated. And it confuses me with people saying get a reticle that matches the turret, not sure how to take that. I'd love it to have a walk through on how to use a Nightforce with the NP-R1 reticle, I think that's the one I looked through. Thanks for any help or advise!

A number of people have created their own BD turrets, and there is certainly a market for custom-made ones. Before you make the investment you should have settled on a load and have your dope dialed, and, as you noted, stay at a relatively consistent density altitude (since varying barometric pressure is effectively the same as changing altitude). I have some factory scopes with drops built in for a 17 HMR and a couple of .223s, but I had to run a new card to compensate for my altitude anyway.

While I've thought about custom turrets, I keep playing around with different loads and would rather just use a card that I can change at will and spend the money on ammo. The card (or phone app or whatever you use) also offers windage adjustments, which a BDC turret won't help with.

As for matching turrets to the reticle, if they are both marked in MOA or both in Mils, you can spot your shot, scale it off the reticle, and dial the correction directly without having to convert from one unit to the other. Having a mis-matched turret and reticle setup is a hassle, and really unnecessary given what is available on the market these days.

Your going to find there is not a lot of Love for bullet drop compensating turrets (scopes) here, ACOG work ok for there intended use, but in the world of precision rifle shooting they simply don't work, buy a Nightforce, buy one with knobs that match the reticle, and learn how Density Altitude effects bullet drop and how to compensate come ups and holds for DA changes, BDC turrets(Changed from Huskemaw) is a lazy hunter wet dream of uselessness.

What do you have on your cards? I have never used one. Is it ranges at where to hold on what MOA with your load and what MOA is 5, 10, 15, and so on mph wind drift?
