Having witnessed people interact with wildlife, I'm siding with the bear on this one. In fact, I don't think a firearm would have fixed this issue, as it didn't need fixing.

The couples friends are saying that they were very experienced campers and took all the necessary bear precautions, except the most obvious one , fuck the rules and carry at least a 10mm pistol to protect yourself, or suffer the consequences.

- Take bears seriously. They are not cuddly.
- Never enter bear country on foot without a powerful firearm and the skill to use it well. (If this is not permitted, do not go.)

I was hunting in Vermillion Bay at the time and the local newspaper article was a tad better. Bear squared up on the dude’s spine between the shoulders and knocked him out initially. The paper had a photo of his injury.
It was a cool trip with my son, but I wasn’t fond of the Canadians working the boarder. Haven’t been back but would like to see more of Canada one day while heading to Alaska.
