Sidearms & Scatterguns Becoming a certified instructor?

Pardon me if this is in the wrong spot...
I am finding myself introducing more and more people to handgun shooting along with basic safety and shooting fundamentals.
I don’t put much value in certificates, but it seems to often matter to new or inexperienced shooters. I am open to taking some courses if it creates more training opportunities.

I would love to hear any recommendations.
The NRA training seems to be the most widely recognized, but I have seen several others as well.

Are you thinking more sport oriented or tactical?

For sport, recognition as a IPSC/USPSA/whatever Range Officer would be a good start.

Funny you post this . I find myself in the same situation . I figure I can do this in retirement and started looking into all the NRA required courses . I talked to one instructor that said "don't bother . There's no money in it and it'll be more of a hobby " . RSO still sounds good and may still lead to more opportunity. Who knows ? I would think that competing and a solid win record would definitely help ones resume . Also I see some guys who are instructors take alot of.big named instructor's courses . Some have b÷n able to brand themselves thru youtube .

I have zero intention to make $ this will only be volunteer work.
Most people I run into are interested in learning to shoot for self/home defense.
Besides helping folks shoot safely and accurately, I want to focus on how to safely store and carry a firearm.

It’s amazing how many people keep their handgun in a cardboard box under a bed and carry It stuffed in a waistband ?

i did the NRA instructor program... Easier to be the office gun guy... when you are also know as the guy who instructs primarily women and scouts on shooting...

Fuck the NRA and their training programs. I've never come across an NRA shooting instructor that could actually shoot, they're just fudds.

If the people whom you're trying to do a favor to question your credentials you can remind them they can go pay someone else for the same stuff you can teach them for free.

The instructor certificate as pointed out, is just a piece of paper, doesn't mean crap.....its what YOU do with it once you are an "instructor" . I would suggest getting involved with other instructors at a range near you, more as an apprentice type activity to learn more on the ins and outs. Pm me if you want more indepth info.

While I agree with 99.9 percent of your comment, there are a few, that can shoot. Nra training is "cheezy" at best, but they are probably the best we have, for the interests of the general public.
