Gunsmithing Bedding a one piece scope base?

Re: Bedding a one piece scope base?

One beds a scope base to prevent torquing it down from inducing stress, which effects ring alignment and scope to bore alignment. Another reason to bed a scope base is to create 100% contact which creates the greatest amount of friction between it and the receiver, friction being what keeps it from moving side to side and fore an aft.
The most common reason for bedding is a gross mismatch between base and receiver indicated by screwing only one end of the base down and checking for a gap at the other end. Another reason is your obsessive and understand that anything manufactured in volume is made to a tolerance, which is not a precise point but a range, you're dealing with mating two parts that even if made to the same tolerances can be at opposite ends of the range and not match. Its also worth trying if your base keeps loosening.
Proper products for bedding a base are the same as bedding an action. JB Weld, Devcon, Accraglass, etc.
