So I want to do that extra step and skim-bed my chassis. Without much details, the chassis is already modified for my action and I need to bed only at front and at rear tang, i.e. not the whole receiver length. What tricks do you use to keep the mud where it belongs? Any magic with plasticine and painter´s tape so you can get a nice edge? I´ll prabably end up taping the middle section up with aluminium foil since it´s thin enough to not interfere with the action fit...

I've used shaped styrofoam, painter's tape, aluminum tape, and of course modeling clay... whatever you use, coat it with release agent. The clay... not so much as it just tends to smear (and compound doesn't stick to it anyway) but definitely coat the tape.

The best release agent I've used, by far, is Johnson's Paste Wax; got it from Lowe's. Under $5 and will last me a lifetime. Coat, allow 30 minutes to haze/dry, buff, and then I put one final ~very light~ coat and leave it; without a final buff. It still takes a bit of elbow grease to get the action out after 24 hours, but once it starts to move it just 'pops' and out it comes. Slicker than frog snot :p

Here's a good youtube tutorial, albeit in an A5: Rifle bedding 1 - YouTube
