Where exactly should the free floating part of the barrel end? On my Rem 700 the barrel is free floated all the way until about an inch and a quarter in front of the recoil lug. The stock was skim bedded for a rem 700. Barrel channeled for a varmint barrel. Which is what my rifle is. Couldn't find a definitive answer using the search on here.

Re: Bedding too far up stock???/

Ive had up to 2 inch barrel bedding pad and also nothing bedded past the recoil lug. Both ways shot great and I personally have no preference.Different builders have diffrent opinions and if your rifle shoots good and have no vertical stringing then I think your gtg.
