well i have a line on a good deal on a 270. i good and well know that there are better rifle calibers ballistically but this is only for a hunting rifle 600yds and in. so i am looking for some info on what velocities to expect pushing the berger 150gr hunting vld out of a 270 and with what powder. odds are i would rebarrel eventually to 280ai but i still would like to know what i am working with original barrel?

    thanks scott

Scott I actually like the 270. The 150 vld has a bc of 523 which is not great but is no slouch either. I had a tikka t3 in 270 and shot the 150 vld into little bugholes. I shot it out to 500 yards with excellent results. IIRC I used 51.5 grains of W760 with good results at 2900 fps or a little under. I also used some h1000 but I have no idea what load it was. Be careful though I think the w 760 load was right at hot for me. DO IT!!!!!

rifle is a sako 75 finnlight and book says it is a 10 twist, which berger recommends for the 150gr hunting vld.

there is also a sako finnlight in 308 can't deciede between the 2

I love the 270, and the 150 VLD is one of the top bullets for it. With max loads, you should be able to get 3200 with a 130, 3100 with a 140, and 3000 with a 150. I also use mag primers for all my 270 loads. R22 would be a top pick for the 150, and H1000 and H4831 would be a good choice, too. Just work up a good load for it, and you'll be good. Also, if you go with a max load, stick to the same brand of brass. I am running Winchester brass in one of my max loads. I sub'd for some Remington brass, and blew a few primers with the same load. It shot good, but was HOT!
