Hi I'm new to this site and forums in general. I have been looking into buying a Remington 700 and doing some modifying. If I wanted to buy a heavy barrel could i install that on the same standard stock i bought with the rifle?

The barrel will need to be properly headspaced by a gunsmith and the barrel channel will probably need to be opened up to accept the larger diameter barrel. A Rem is not a "do it yourself" platform like the savage.

What rifle do you have(long action, short action) and what is your goal? Target, long range, varmint? How old is the rifle?

I don't have it yet but I'm looking at building a 'sniper" rifle.
I'm thinking Remington 700 with a 22in heavy barrel, 1:10 twist, not sure on what round I'm wanting to shoot either, as long as its cheap easy to come by but still shoot out to 1000+ yards.
