Bell and Carlson Stock Concerns

Hi all. I just bought a BC Medalist Tactical for my 700SPS Tactical. The gun shot sub-MOA with the factory Hogue.

Here are my concerns with the stock.
1. I had to clearance one side of the barrel channel about 1/16" down the length of it to clear.

2. When installed, it no longer sat level on the bipod, as if the bedding block was not square with the bottom of the stock.

3. My 34 yard zero did not change, however the gun used to shoot 34 yard zero/200 yard zero. Today I confirmed that it still has a 34 yard zero but at 200 yards it is shooting about 3" higher. At 34 yards my group size was about an inch, so ~3MOA.

I would have done some additional shooting but being so muddy it was kind of a PITA today, and with the initial stock fitment issues I felt like I was just burning ammo.

Anyone had these problems before? I bought the stock not wanting to bed it after hearing a lot of good reviews on drop-in performance.

I should add something else.

My 600 yard dope was about 1 mil high compared to what it used to be with the same zero.

Does this make any sense?

Re: Bell and Carlson Stock Concerns

Yes you moved the action from a stock and into another.

Rezero the rifle at 100 and check against olddope.

A 34 yard zero??? You could be 1 moa off and that's only 1/3 an inch.

I'll shoot it at 200 again here in the next few days as well as 600. I could be off at 34, but I zerod it right after I installed the stock, it hadn't shifted, then I double checked again today. I guess I could be off 1/3.

I hate 100 yard zeros with a passion. I zeroed at 34 because with my load/scope height it was on again at 200.

Re: Bell and Carlson Stock Concerns

A new stock is gonna put all new stresses on the action as well as the angle and way it sits in the stock. This is gonna change your zero..
34 yards is gonna require a target the same size as the bullet to keep 1moa. You just can't tell anything usefull that close.

Re: Bell and Carlson Stock Concerns

this is like my m40 medalist, i had to bed mine before it would stop acting up, i had to sand down the barrel channel as well, just a little bit nothing major. when i bedded it i used marine tex gray the 1st tome, didn't work out good, ordered the brownell's kit the 2nd, no go again, found that the compounds where not adhering to the stock correct, i do knot know if it was me or the compound, i sanded it all out and used my demel, got it all cleaned out, and bedded it with Devcon 10760 i think it was the titanium puddy, now its a dam nail driver, do deflection no flyers not a thing worn, Cell and Carlson are dam worth the money as far as im concern, they do have to be bedded you can run on the aluminum bed block its not like the AICS where its grooved or for good fit to the stock, or the choate witch as well has that good biting block, it does need to be beded, so does the McMillan and the others.
