Hey all,
I'm looking into purchasing a HMR chambered in .300 Win Mag. I can't find many reviews out there for it. Can anyone speak for or against this rifle before I pull the trigger? 1st or 2nd hand experience is appreciated. Planned use for hunting deer, moose, elk, black bear and I want to have fun with it at ranges too, seeing how consistent I can get at extended ranges.
Thank you!

I have the short action 6.5 version. I like it a lot the trigger is ok but is the only thing that I would swap out on it. Over all great gun.

I have an HMR in .300 WM and like the rifle.

Here is a post on that topic I put up awhile back.

As for accuracy. The jury is still out, sort of. I can put the first three rounds and sometimes four into a clover leaf (100yds) if I do my job but there is always one round that strays an inch or more to ruin the group. I have not had many 5 round groups sub MOA. I am thinking it could be me or the barrel heats up and a round wanders. It looks from reading posts that the 6.5cm HMRs does not seem to have that problem as much if at all when shooting longer strings but there is a big difference between .300wm and 6.5cm.

Obviously for hunting it is perfect in that the 1st three rounds go exactly where you put them and that should be two more rounds then you really need, but I could do that with a lighter gun.

Have taken it out to 940yds on steel, (max at friends’ private range) so it certainly does shoot. But I figure for a match one would want a rifle that will routinely produce MOA or less 5 round groups. So far mine does not do that.

You did not mention what caliber you are considering so the above may not exactly apply to your situation but that has been my experience so far. FYI if I had a do over, I would have waited to find a Premier, but I am not unhappy with my choice.

Very helpful, exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you!

Get it in 300 PRC
I like the PRC a lot in theory but I can't seem to find any factory ammo lighter then 212 for it, and I plan on shooting only factory ammo for the time being. I don't want to hit a whitetail with a 212 gr bullet, won't be much left for me to eat I would guess. What I like about the Win Mag is I can load a 150 in it for whitetail and a 210 for bear and elk. If 300 PRC had as wide a range of ammo choices like the Win Mag I'd be all over it.

I had one in 308, I think for the price they make great rifles. The action is basically an upgraded rem 700, the trigger is decent. You can always drop a timney or something in it later. Same with aftermarket stocks. I put mine in an HS Precision before selling it to buy a Christensen Arms

I have one in 300WM. Shoots very well and is my Elk Gun. Topped with a Bushnell LRHS 4-18 in Nightforce Rings and has a BT rail up front so I can use a bipod or throw in a Anvil30.

I used this rail on my .300Win HMR. It works great and gives you a bit more space at the same or less weight. you might want to take a look.

Fasteners came with it.
