Berger 185 VLD's and Reloader 17

I have a pretty good load for my 10FP using 185 VLD's and RL15, but I bought a pound of RL17 to try out and plan on loading some test rounds up tonight.

Savage 10FP w/ 22" 10 twist barrel
Lapua brass
Fed 210M primers
Seated on the lands

I'll prolly start @ 44gr, and ladder up to 46 as long as I'm not seeing to much pressure signs.

Anybody tried this with similar set up? If so, what's your results. I'll post up how she does.

BTW, this rifle is an absolute tack driver with the 185's and RL-15. I'd just like a titty bit more velocity out of it.

I did a little looking, and I think you could get up to 47 grains, and maybe 48. Load 1 round each up to 48 or 49 grains and see.

QL shows 45.2 being max charge @ 60,200psi, but 6mmbr did a test where they were running up to 47gr w/o excessive pressure.

I'm gonna play it safe first, I only charged up to 46.5 on this first round, only seated bullets up to 45.5, the rest I'll push in at the range if everything is kosher.

Jason what MV are you geting with the RL15 and 185's now ?

I went up to44gr 2650 and backed down to 43gr and 2600fps to save the brass as long as i can..

savage 10 26" and 185scenars/lapua case

I want to say I was getting 2600-2650 with 42.3gr of RL15. I lost my data notebook so I'm going by memory here. I've loaded up some at 42 and 42.3 (RL15) and I'll report back with MV's Sunday after I go back to the range.

On Alliants website, the Speer 180 grain BTSP shows 48.7 grains of R17. If you stayed under this, and approched with caution, you should be alright.
