Rifle Scopes Best 100 to 200$ scope

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

Welcome to the Hide. Be sure to fill out your profile completely, otherwise expect a wrath to come down on you. Also, more than anything else, search out the answers you are looking for, and do ALOT of reading. Simply put, words to the wise.

My only suggestion to you for a good scope in that particular price range would be the BSA Tactical from MidwayUSA. I paid $160.00 delivered for mine.

I currently have 2 of them. One on my Ruger 10/22 Target, and one on my Savage Predator .243 rifle. So far they have been doing good. I liked the 1st one so much that I bought a 2nd.

I do alot of reading snd research b4 I finally ask real people who have field experience with certain products that I have interests in and for the most part I get realy good feedback from people which is what I make my decisions from. Love snipers hide so far thanks fellow shooters!

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

Nikon from wally world... go real cheap, and save up for a better one...

if you want to spend a little more, Millet 4-16 is halfway decent if you can get it on sale from some place like midway usa. i have one, its not the best, but it works out to 200 yards good,

but honestly, save up and get a good one, like many people here say, buy once cry once...

+1 have one on my 22lr and my brother runs one on his competition rifle. Best budget optic easily.

Good Luck,

No, its not. They are not good for any price, hell, they ain't worth free.

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

it will take some watching, but a bushnell 3200 4-12 will go for 200 + up, otherwise I will 2nd the mueller for that budget, if you shoot at less than 50 yds lack of AO can have significant effect

Leapers is poorly made Chinese junk made wholesale for bottom dollar.

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

What are you using it for? I have a viper 2-7x32 on my HRM for hunting. The magnification is a little low for precision target work at longer ranges but for shooting rabbits and things it is great. If it is for target work only I would look for something in the 14 to 20 max power range. The Muellers have a good rep and might fit your needs.

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

I asked almost this same question awhile ago. I took the sage advice that was given to me and saved a little longer to get a Weaver Tactical Grand Slam 3-10x from Midway. Goes on sale quite often for $299, mil/mil, great quality. I couldn't be happier that I waited. I shot a guys 22 the other day that had the new mil/mil BSA on it. No comparison.

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

If the scope is just being used on a rimfire for target practice at 100 yards I don't see why a sub 100 dollar leapers won't suffice. Assuming that the op is only using it for practice. To each his own.

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

For 17hmr I always hold over so I don't need turrets so that removes one feature which raises the price. IMO any good scope with a bdc or (prefferably mildot) will do. That said the nikon prostate 4-12 win a mildot is on sale at midway for $175 and I think that would be your best bet and would be a fine scope for a 17 that you wouldn't need to upgrade later. Spend he rest on better mounts.

+1
I just picked up the same Weaver Tactical Grand Slam 3-10x40 from Midway for a 17HMR. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the turrets.

Because a Leapers won't hold zero, won't return to zero, and won't track worth a damn.

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

I have one on my .22lr and just as redneck has said i never touch the turrets. I just hold over since it has a mil dot reticule. its a sub 100 dollar scope, i'm not expecting it to do anything more. i disagree on it not holding zero, unless you placed it on a centerfire rifle it should be fine with all rimfire calibers. I used it to practice trigger control on my 22lr when i first started shooting. nothing more nothing less.

certainly if you have the money go for a better scope. but since the op is placing this on a rimfire rifle. i see no point in getting anything nicer for a caliber that most people dont shoot past 100 yrds.

Cause you cant learn or practice with equipment that doesnt do what it's supposed to

^^^^ This is exactly the problem. I have a cheap $60 scope bought at K-Mart when I was too dumb to know the difference. I have to zero that thing EVERY SINGLE TIME I GO SHOOTING. And it's on a 10/22, so it doesn't even have to content with any recoil worth a damn.

Re: Best 100 to 200$ scope

I had a leapers on a 7mm rem mag with no problems. Not saying they're the best, but mine held up and tracked back and forth with no problems. I would suggest a Simmons 44mag series 6.5-20x44 mildot for like $150. Mildot with covered 1/8" turrets. That's what I put on my rimfires and they work well and hold up just fine. Then you can save for something better. Or even better save a little more and get a wotac. Google wonder optics and you'll find em. Good product, great service in my opinion and you'll have something you can use on a bigger rifle later. I can say that I have a friend with a Simmons on his 308 hunting rig and its held up just fine too. Goodluck
