I need to adjust the front post height on my Colt 6920. When I look on the Midway website, the adjustment tools all seem to have problems. Does someone make a tool that works well with the A2 front sight?

Re: Best AR-15 front sight post adjustment tool?

Thanks and hello right back. To adjust the sight post height I need to depress the stop pin and rotate the sight post at the same time. Are you suggesting I use the bullet tip to depress the pin or rotate the post?

Re: Best AR-15 front sight post adjustment tool?

Option A) use two bullets one to push the pin in and the other to put in the opposing notch and turn.

or

Option B) PM me your adress and I'll send ya the GI tool.

Not all FSB's are created equal. Sometimes the adjustment tool won't clear the ears, a bullet tip is your most foolproof method.

I have never used anything but a bullet. Thought everyone did that. Just push down and turn. No sense in buying fancy things for no reason.

$8.50 from Bushmaster. I love mine!

Better than any adjustment tool:

(1) live FMJ round
(1) cheap (Bic style) ball point pin......or any small straw will do

Use the tip of the FMJ round to depress the detent. Remove the ink tube cartridge/insert from your pen. Mash the open end (end opposite of ball point) of the pen down onto the front sight. You can easily turn the front sight post as you wish.

This is actually a faster way to remove the front sight post, but can be used just as well for adjustment.

Ditto. It's in the bag and works every time.

I have a Gerber Efect tool that includes an A1/A2 front sight adjustment tool. The "barrel" is magnetic and reversible to allow for adjustment of either front sight. It also has a nifty bolt carrier scraper and some other little gadgets. It's nice but somewhat expensive. I keep it in my kit but it was issued to me so I didn't have to pay for it. If you are looking for something to only adjust the front sight, I'd recommend the Bushmaster tool that others have. It's less than $10 and works great. I have one as well and take it to the range every time we zero irons as a matter of saving time over the bullet tip method.

You should always have a bullet with the rifle, so that is usually the handiest, but it only works with a FMJ. I also almost always have a ball point pen on me, so that works well, too. That is probably what I use most often actually, because I have it right in my pocket. I have the tools, but I usually end up using a pen or a bullet because they are quicker than digging into my gear.

Re: Best AR-15 front sight post adjustment tool?

I have a front sight adjustment tool a that is made from stainless and it works great. I forget where I bought it so it doesn't really help, but I wanted to point out that I bought this one because I have bent or broken the teeth on more than one aluminum tool with stuborn front sights.

As for buying a tool when you only need it "once", some of us own more than one AR. Since I bought the above tool, I have bought over a doze ARs and the tool is nice to have.

Re: Best AR-15 front sight post adjustment tool?

Rotating the front sight post in the direction of the 'UP' arrow raises the strike of the round. The front sight post actually is being screwed down into the front sight base.

As far a a 'tool' for adjusting the front sight post, I've used the bullet tip and it works fine for single notch adjustments, but for large adjustments or disassembly, the Skilcraft pen method is the best I've found for all front sight posts. I've got a tool for adjusting the front sight post, but it's the same diameter as the front sight post and will not work with HK style front sights, as the shroud opening at the top is smaller that the front sight post diameter -- the tool won't fit.
