Best ball powder for .308?

I'm really wanting to speed up my reloading process. I've ben told that FGMM and other factory produced ammo that consistently shoots well out of my rifles is powdercharged by volume(powder measure) and NOT by weight(scale). So I want some advice on what powder I should use for progressive reloading(Dillon 550) of .308. I've noticed when loading .223 that my Dillon has abut a 2/10 of a grain variation in how much ball powder it pours. My scale(Chargemaster) also has a 2/10th of a grain variation when it pours varget. I dont see much reason to continue crawling along with single stage reloadng anymore. Thanks.

Re: Best ball powder for .308?

I am loading on a hornady lnl ap press and I recently switched to alliant ar-comp from varget. It is an extruded powder similar to varget but shorter. I am getting better velocity along with .1 grain throws all day long in progressive mode. Other than that alliant 2000mr and hodgdon cfe223 are suppose to be pretty good.

My last load was 42gr ar-comp under 175gr smk and it was running just over 2800fps without any signs of pressure using lapua brass. My last group was .6" groups at 100yds using pulled m118lr bullets. I just changed to 155gr Sierra Palma but I haven't got much data on it yet. This load is well above max so make sure you work up to this.
