Picking up my ruger precision rifle in 308 next week and I'm looking at rangefinders. I don't plan on shooting anything past 1000 yards. Would also like to use it hunting. What's the best budget piece out there?

I just got a Leica 2400 that ranged steel out to 2300 easily. Can’t beat that for $500!

I have to agree with most guys already posting here. I just received my new Leica 2400R last week. It does 1000 yards very easily!!!! Over 2000 without much trouble at all. I was pretty impressed the first time I stepped outside & started playing with it!!!!! And, for hunting purposes, its pretty compact, & like all Leicas, the glass is very nice!!!! Good luck. Yea I was seriously expecting 16-1700 yards and mine was doing 2300 on the third press of the button. Not even on a tripod. I set it on my rear bag laying prone. Just have to make sure the laser/receiver aren’t blocked by the bag. I can’t imagine why anyone would pay any more for a rangefinder. I guess a more expensive one may be better in bad weather or if you wanted ballistics. But for $500 a 2300 yd lrf is ridic.
