Can you guys recommend to me what is considered the best commercial off the shelf ammo for 6.5 Creedmoor. Factory made. Best bullet weights for my barrel profile?

I'll be using it with a JP Rifles AR Large Frame with a 22" barrel. I'd like to buy a cross-section and sample it all to determine what my rifle likes the best.

Here are the exact specs on my build's rifle.

SUPERMATCH BARREL, 6.5 CREEDMOOR
CHAMBER, 22" MEDIUM CONTOUR, 1:8 TWIST,
EXTRA LONG RIFLE-LENGTH GAS SYSTEM

Oh wait...yes I know I should be reloading and nothing can even compare to custom loads...there I got that out of the way.

Your "shelf" depends on where you're shopping I suppose, but I'm assuming you just mean factory ammo.

Any suggestions on bullet weights for my barrel profile?

I have never selected ammo "for my barrel profile". I tend to select it for the intended use. Are you shooting elk or punching paper at 300 M? Going to push it to 1500 M? That will be the determining factor. Most of the major ammo Mfg's are loading very good quality today. Choose your bullet and match your selection to that.

Buy prime and you will be happy with how it shoots and the high quality of the brass for reloading. I have 4 of these jp barrels and they all shoot well with the prime. The 130 grain golden target bullet performs well on paper and game. I think the 130 grain bullets are a great choice for velocity(2860 fps)and bullet weight out of the 22 inch barrel.

+ 1 on finding a commercial load your rifle likes, there is no predicting it. That said, I went on this hunt with essentially that same JP configuration, and tried the Eagle Eye 130 gr, Prime 130 gr, Hornady 140 gr ELD-M and Hornady 120 gr ELD-M. The Hornady 140 gr ELD-M shot best, .5-.75 MOA; Eagle Eye was next, same .5-.75 MOA but it was difficult to get the adjustable gas right so as not to chew up the brass on ejection. Eagle Eye delivered about a 100 fps faster muzzle velocity compared to the Hornady 140, no surprise there.

The Prime 130 gr, which shoots fantastically well in a 6.5 CM bolt gun I own, patterned at 1.5 MOA at 100 yards in my JP. The Hornady 120 gr was 1.5-1.75 MOA. They both rocket out of the muzzle, but at distance no telling where.

Eagle Eye has a blog post about their rounds in a JP LRP-07 you should chase down. The company guarantees .5 MOA out of any rifle and has direct experience with the JP so maybe some learnings for you there.

It also should go without saying but I will say it: your shot execution is absolutely critical to getting decent performance out of any of these commercial rounds. Here in California I had to install a new compliant grip on my JP, which changed my hand position and address to the trigger, and at first was seeing 2 MOA performance until I finally got the hang of it and shot the numbers I quoted above. So the sermon is to be sure you know how to shoot the rig before making any judgments about the rounds.

but yeah just try the various hornady eld-m and federal gold medal offerings (prime also though i haven't tried it). generally you want a higher bc (ballistic coefficient) bullet which generally is heavier-for-caliber (eg 147 vs 140g) but if the lighter stuff shoots meaningfully better, go with that.

The Hornady ELD 140 shoots pretty well in mine, but not super consistent. At 100 yards some groups as small as 3/8" some 1.25" although .75" and under is the norm (could just be me though as I'm not that great a shooter). I tried the Federal Gold Medal Berger Match and it was pretty bad - every group over 1.5". I have some Federal Gold Medal SMK, but haven't been to the range yet to try it out.

What kind of optic and trigger are you running for these tests?

For what it's worth both my the 22" JP 6.5 Creedmoor barrels I have shoot these loads very well. Sometimes if I am at the exact right point in my coffee consumption I can get groups under 1/2 MOA with hand loads in the 6.5's. Usually I have a better shooter bang out groups for me when I do load dev though.
Hornady 147 ELD-M - Under 3/4 MOA
Hornady 140 ELD-M - Under 3/4 MOA
Prime 130 - Under 3/4 MOA

Your barrel might have a preference but those 3 loads seem to do quite well in my barrels and also in friend's JP rifles. Just like anything else, test the top recommendations and then buy a shitload of the stuff that works well for you.

As noted above, try several different ones. Mine likes the Winchester 140 Match above all others, and I tested maybe a dozen. Mile High occasionally has a sale that makes it worth buying a few cases at a time.

Just my 0.02, avoid using acronyms like COTS (Commercial Orbital Transportation Services... crown of thorns starfish... and so on). A lot of guys like to use LPVO, which I think also refers to some type of lesbian virus, which around here wouldn't be out of place.

Get a single box of multiple manufacturers. Shoot groups and use a chrono, pick the one with the best groups as well as the lowest SD and ES.

And then ideally buy that exact lot again and enough to burn out the barrel is possible
