....Savage 10 in 308 with fluted, threaded bull barrell. I had an older but nice Leopold hunting scope on Weavers that I added until I get a nicer optic.
I guess I'm no longer really a beginner but not an expert by any stretch. All I know is this rifle allows me to really put all the fundamentals and tricks together and see results, straight out of the box. I got pretty comfortable on my 300WM with semi consistent results after a lot of hard work, but this .308 is just that much friendlier at the range.
After breaking in the barrel with 15 shoot-and-cleans, the second 100yd group I shot was two overlapped with the third round .5 away. The next group was .75 and the fourth group was .5 in the bullseye. And I was shooting Hornady factory match ammo! Can't wait to add a brake and nicer scope. Only downer was a stiff action that needs some work. .. The accutrigger was once again unreal.
Long story short, if you're looking for a good rifle to get a newb hooked, this would be a good one!
