Best rifle on a budget? savage 10 sba Creedmoor $350 otd

The actions are certainly not smooth and will probably have a heavy bolt throw. However, if it is a budget build you are looking for, then budget it is. You are looking at a new stock and new barrel right off the bat so the 350 investment is basically just for a crappy production action. I would just go with an ordered action for a little more at that point.
I have tried this road and was not happy in the end. But, it is what it is, what I thought was a budget build...

I was looking for a cheap action to put a savage prefit on and I came across this rifle. For $350 total investment it seems like a good deal. Was thinking maybe drop it into a Oryx chassis. What do you guys think? https://www.classicfirearms.com/savage-22237-10sba-tb/
If you're looking to throw a prefit barrel on right away the unfired factory small shank 6.5 barrel could probably get you $150 or so back. If you're fine with sticking with the 10 action for a while I say go for it.

It was just a thought to try a Savage. I have Remington 700, Tikka CTR, and Bighorn already. I’m thinking I might just save the money for another Origin. This savage would save me about $800 over the origin.

Why are you talking about low-budget and then putting a bunch of money into it? Savages are great if you're going to run them stock til you can afford something better, but I personally wouldn't consider buying a Savage if my ultimate budget would allow for something nicer off the bat (even if it meant factory stock/barrel for awhile). Tikka would be a much better option IMHO.

I wanted something to screw my Xcaliber barrel on to. But I am leaning towards just switch barrel on the origin I already have.

I bought a Savage 10 SBA. It did come with a 22” barrel, some state the model number comes with 20” barrel. Shoots Hornady ELDM 147 about 1/2 moa at 100 yards.

A few things about the cheap rifle:

The good:

  1. Seems to shoot well through the first 80 rounds.
  2. Factory Accutrigger is adequate and serviceable.
  3. Almost no recoil as it is pretty heavy (I do have a Little Bastard Brake on it though).
  4. Price.

The bad:

  1. Bolt binds very easy. I had to put a certain angle of pressure to work the action after each shot. Hopefully it will get better with more use.
  2. Cheap but serviceable stock

Do you know which recoil lug this rifle has? I’ve heard these are 10fcp-sr actions in a centerfeed blind mag stock. If that is true then they would have an accustock recoil lug? I know that the model is discontinued. I know it would work in a chassis, I’m wondering if it would work in a new accufit accustock.

Unfortunately I do not. I do not have any pics with it out of the stock. I did put it in a B&C stock and it fit just fine.
