I have been saving for a new barrel for my Rem700 spsv .308. I hate the long 26" barrel and would love to be in the 20" club. Is .308 the best option for a 20" barrel or are the better cartridges to choose from. I like the long barrel life of the .308 and want to be able to feed from aics mags. Anyone have a 7mm-08 in a 20"? 6.5x47? ......

thanks.

Re: Best round for 20"

I have a 20" 308, 27 and 22 6.5x47. Cartridge and barrel length are two different items.

A 30cal bullet is a pig. 7, 6.5, and 6 are all much better in the wind regardless of barrel length. You really gain nothing with 6.5x47 over the .243 or .260.

One you have picked a cartridge get as long of barrel as you can deal with... It only helps. All rounds will lose velocity with a shot barrel.
